Hi, I’m Mr. Ransom. The 2024-25 school year will be my ninth year as the Social Studies teacher at Ascent Academies Lehi. I teach Geography, World History, U.S. History, and Utah Studies. I have a B.A. in Social Studies Education with a secondary focus from Western Governors University and a Social Studies Composite endorsement from the Utah State Board of Education. I am also currently pursuing a Master of Education in Instructional Design from WGU.
I am fortunate to be a part of the Ascent Academy Lehi junior high faculty. We operate as a team, and our highest priorities are academic growth along with the health and safety of the students.
My wife Julie and I were both born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and have been married for 23 years. We have five children ranging in age from 8 to 21 and a 2-year-old granddaughter. We love the outdoors, which is a big part of why we love Utah. We like to boat, hike, bike, garden, and play/watch all kinds of sports. On fall Saturdays and Sundays, you can find us cheering on the Utes and the Seattle Seahawks, respectively. You can also regularly find us at a soccer match watching one of our girls play.
As a 17-year Lehi resident, I am privileged to have the opportunity to work with local youth to support their growth as they become young adults and learn to be responsible citizens. I am passionate about history and its influence on the world we live in today and the world our children will inherit tomorrow.
My teaching philosophy is simple: students learn by doing. They aren’t sponges meant to absorb trivial facts and dates. They are scholars engaged in the task of critical thinking and creative problem-solving. It is my role to guide and support them in this task.
My "key to success" advice for students is to practice mutual respect, maintain diligent persistence, and put forth consistent effort. Then, you can do most anything you want in life. They may stumble along the way, but if they embrace these principles, success will be achieved.
