Amy Last

Fifth Grade

I grew up as the eldest of five children and was raised in Spokane, Washington, and Las Vegas, Nevada, before attending college at Brigham Young University.   I am now a married mother of four children, ranging in ages from 30 to 19.  I love gardening, playing softball, volley ball, riding dirt bikes and taking hikes with my family and our dog, Brody.  During the spring of 2020, my youngest child graduated from high school and my husband accepted a new job in Utah allowing us to relocate to Utah County from Dublin, California.

I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business then worked in banking systems technology for 10 years prior to being able to stay home and raise my children full time.  As my children grew, I was a parent-volunteer at my children’s elementary school during their time there. I became employed at the Dublin Unified School District as a reading intervention specialist where I worked with children from Kindergarten to 5th grade helping them with decoding skills, fluency, and comprehension.

I enjoyed my time in the classroom so much that I decided to get my teaching credential in 2013. Upon receiving my Multiple Subject teaching credential, I started working in Dublin Unified School District in their Transitional Kindergarten program, the first year of a two year kindergarten program.  I taught that grade for 5 years and loved it!  After moving to Utah during the Pandemic,  I was given the opportunity to teach 5th grade.  I have now taught 5th grade for two years and have fallen in love with the students here in Utah Valley.

I love working in the classroom and building relationships with my students, along with their caregivers, as they progress on their educational journey.  I also enjoy working with other teachers who share my love of watching young people develop and grow their social, emotional, and academic skills.  I believe education is an adventure, creates opportunity, and that all children can learn.  I especially like figuring out how to customize teaching opportunities to meet the individual needs of my students!
